Sal's Kewl Signage

Fifteen electronic sign types for FiveM, with live text on every board. Portable message trailers, 24 m overhead gantries, arrow boards, radar speed signs, digital billboards, fuel pylons, parking counters, transit panels and a venue marquee — all of them scriptable, and all of them drawn so that no model pack is required.

Boards are rendered in world space, lamp by lamp, which means two signs standing on the same prop can say two different things. Set a message from a command, from the in-game editor, or from your own resource through the export API.

What you get

  • Fifteen sign types across three families — roadway, commercial and civic.
  • Arbitrary runtime text. Any string, any time. Pages cycle and long lines scroll, the way a real board does.
  • Ships with its own hardware. Every type draws its trailer, mast, truss or monopole. Nothing to stream, and a model pack drops straight in if you build one.
  • Full-colour billboards that paint a web page onto the board face — pictures and slides, with fades, per-line typefaces, colours and effects. Paste a picture straight into the editor with Ctrl+V; it is shrunk to the board and stored in a library on your server, so nobody has to host anything.
  • Radar speed signs that read the approaching vehicle under a printed SPEED LIMIT plate, in mph or km/h, flashing when a driver is over.
  • Arrow boards and lane signals — ten arrow patterns, six lane states, driven by name.
  • Numeric boards — parking counts, fuel prices and posted limits driven by data instead of strings.
  • Schedules. A board says different things at different times of day on its own: breakfast at six, the evening show after five, a highway board that reads differently overnight.
  • Template variables. Push DELAY {minutes} MIN once, then update only the number that moves.
  • Mirroring. Point one board at another and it repeats it live — a gantry's cantilever echoing the main board, with no chance of the two drifting apart.
  • An in-game editor with a live LED preview, one-click presets, map pins, and place / move / duplicate / delete without touching a config file.
  • An export API that targets one sign, a group tag or everything at once, plus self-releasing overrides for emergency broadcasts, and an optional token-guarded HTTP endpoint so a CAD or a Discord bot can drive your boards from outside the server.
  • An audit log to console, file or Discord webhook — so "who put that on the billboard" is a question with an answer.
  • Export and import to move a whole build between servers.

Built to stay cheap

Lamp geometry is computed once and replayed, boards outside the camera are rejected before anything is drawn, and a per-frame triangle budget is spent nearest-board-first — so a street full of signs degrades in detail instead of dropping your frame rate. /sign perf shows you exactly what the boards are costing.

Safe by default

Server-authoritative throughout: the client asks, the server decides. No database — placed signs live in a single JSON file. Permissions are ACE for anything that changes the map, with an optional job tier so a roadworks or traffic crew can run boards without being handed the keys. Every net event is rate limited.

Requirements

  • qb-core, qbx_core, es_extended, or no framework at all — detected at runtime.
  • No dependencies. No ox_lib, no database, no model pack.

Installation

  1. Drop the sals_kewlsignage folder into your resources/.
  2. Add ensure sals_kewlsignage to your server.cfg.
  3. Give yourself the admin permission: add_ace group.admin sals_kewlsignage.admin allow
  4. Join and run /sign demo — it puts you in front of a field containing one of every sign type, so you can see the whole catalogue at a glance.

A 65-page illustrated owner's manual is included with the download, and is also readable online: salskewlkorner.com/documentation
